Having qualified in 1999, Peter McCormick has worked as a physiotherapist in the NHS for 22 years. As a junior physiotherapist he completed a number of core rotations in varied settings including Musculoskeletal Out Patients, Surgical/ICU, Medical/ Paediatrics.
Having established a firm experience base Peter specialised in musculoskeletal management. To further develop his knowledge and experience he moved to a Trauma and Orthopaedic Centre where he worked for 10 years in all aspects of Orthopaedic care from In-patient rehabilitation, to Out-patient rehabilitation (including the utilisation of Hydrotherapy) and also to Extended Scope (ICATS) level.
Since 2016 Peter has worked as an Emergency Physiotherapy Practitioner in a busy A+E Department. This role is quite varied and requires ability to manage acute soft tissue injuries as they present to the department and in follow-up clinics. He is regularly requested for X-Ray/MRI and blood investigations in these settings. Peter is responsible for ongoing management of these patients including Orthopaedic referral as required. This role also involves education of doctors/nurses and other physiotherapists. This is a service he is continually trying to develop further to improve patient management and their experience in A+E.
As well as his NHS role Peter has also enjoyed considerable physiotherapy experience in the sports settings. He has worked with County Derry GAA Gaelic Football and Hurling at Senior/Under 21 and Minor levels. Most recently Peter worked with Derry Minor Hurlers in 2019 during their successful campaign in the Celtic Challenge. He particularly enjoys the pitch-side role as well as return to play rehabilitation that physiotherapy in the sports setting can offer.

These days he enjoys longer distance running and regularly runs ½ marathons as well as the occasional marathon and ultimately would like to complete a triathlon. Peter spends the rest of his time watching from the side-lines as his 3 kids compete in a variety of sports. Finally he likes to relax by walking his dog.
