Mr Raymond McKenna is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in adult and paediatric foot & ankle conditions, trauma surgery, sports injuries, complex clubfoot, limb deformity and limb reconstruction surgery.
Mr McKenna graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2010. He completed the Northern Ireland Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Training program and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (Trauma & Orthopaedics) in 2020. Mr McKenna also completed a Master of Surgery higher degree in Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery through the University of Edinburgh with distinction and Master of Science higher degree in Clinical Education with distinction through Queen’s University Belfast.
Mr McKenna went on to complete the competitive AOA accredited world-renowned Paediatric Orthopaedics Fellowship at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne under the guidance of Leo Donnan. During training he worked closely with Prof. Wong-Chung past president of Irish Foot and Ankle Society (IOFAS). Mr McKenna is the current secretary of IOFAS and is involved in the education and training of current higher surgical trainees, junior doctors and medical students.
Mr McKenna is a consultant in Musgrave Park Hospital, Royal Victoria Hospital and the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. He is the clinical lead in the Ponseti clubfoot service and maintains a large tertiary referral practice for children and adults from across Northern Ireland. Mr McKenna specialises in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery including open, arthroscopic and selective minimally invasive approaches. He manages congenital and acquired limb deformity and limb length discrepancy, foot and ankle arthritis including ankle replacement, bunions, flat feet, ligament/tendon damage, neuromuscular conditions and complex fracture surgery.
Mr McKenna is widely published including authorship in an orthopaedic text book. He has presented at many national and international meetings and has been invited to lecture for orthopaedic surgeons and allied health care professionals as course faculty. He has held an honorary contract with Queen’s University Belfast teaching anatomy and examining medical students in their final MB OSCE’s. He has won multiple awards from quality improvement projects which have led to improved patient care, experience hospital efficiency and safety.
